What Is Qi2?
By WillItSnap Team · March 2026
The next-generation wireless charging standard with magnetic alignment, bringing MagSafe-like features to all phones.
What Is Qi2?
Qi2 (pronounced "chee two") is the next-generation wireless charging standard developed by the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC). It introduces a Magnetic Power Profile (MPP) that provides the same magnetic alignment as Apple's MagSafe, but as an open standard available to all manufacturers.
This means Android phones can now snap magnetically onto chargers, mounts, and accessories just like iPhones have since 2020. Qi2 launched in 2023 and is quickly being adopted across the industry.
Qi2 vs MagSafe
Qi2 and MagSafe share the same Magnetic Power Profile, meaning they are cross-compatible. A Qi2 charger works with a MagSafe iPhone, and a MagSafe charger works with a Qi2 Android phone.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Qi2 the same as MagSafe?
They use the same magnetic alignment technology, but Qi2 is an open standard available to all manufacturers while MagSafe is Apple's proprietary system. They are cross-compatible — Qi2 chargers work with MagSafe phones and vice versa.
Which Android phones support Qi2?
We currently track 9 Android phones with Qi2 support, including select Samsung Galaxy S25 and Google Pixel 9 models. More phones are expected to adopt Qi2 throughout 2026.
Do Qi2 phones work with MagSafe accessories?
Yes. Because Qi2 uses the same Magnetic Power Profile as MagSafe, Qi2 phones are compatible with MagSafe chargers, mounts, and magnetic accessories.
How fast is Qi2 charging?
The Qi2 standard currently supports up to 15W wireless charging with magnetic alignment. This is faster and more efficient than original Qi because the magnets ensure perfect coil alignment every time.
Can I add Qi2 to an older phone?
You can add magnetic alignment to any phone with a magnetic ring adapter or Qi2-compatible case. If your phone already supports Qi wireless charging, it will charge through the magnetic mount, though without the Qi2 speed optimization.
