Are AirPods cases interchangeable between generations?
No. Each AirPods generation has a different charging case shape. AirPods 1/2 share a case, AirPods 4 standard and ANC share a case, and Pro 1/2 have the same outer dimensions. All other combinations are incompatible.
Does an AirPods Pro 2 case fit AirPods Pro 3?
No. The AirPods Pro 3 charging case is 2mm taller (47.2mm vs 45.2mm) and 1.6mm wider (62.2mm vs 60.6mm) than the Pro 2. A Pro 2 protective case will not fit.
Are AirPods 3 and AirPods 4 cases the same?
No. The AirPods 3 case is 54.4mm wide while the AirPods 4 case is 50.1mm wide — a 4.3mm difference. They are not interchangeable.
Do AirPods 4 and AirPods 4 ANC use the same case?
Yes. Both the standard AirPods 4 and the AirPods 4 with ANC have identical external charging case dimensions (46.2 x 50.1 x 21.2mm). Any protective case fits both models.
How do I know which AirPods I have?
Go to Settings > Bluetooth on your iPhone, tap the info (i) button next to your AirPods, and look for the model number. You can also identify them by the charging case shape and charging port type.
Do AirPods Pro Gen 1 and Gen 2 use the same case?
The charging cases have the same external dimensions (45.2 × 60.6 × 21.7mm) but different internal hardware. Protective sleeve cases typically fit both, but Gen 2 has a speaker and lanyard loop that some Gen 1 cases may cover.
