iPhone 17 Camera Plateau: What It Is & Why Cases Don't Fit
By WillItSnap Team · March 2026
The iPhone 17 Pro replaces the traditional camera bump with an aluminum "plateau" that extends across the full width of the phone, breaking compatibility with older cases.
What Is the Camera Plateau?
The iPhone 17 Pro introduces a completely new rear design: instead of a square camera bump in one corner, the cameras sit within an aluminum strip (the “plateau”) that spans the full width of the phone. It's flush with the top edge and creates a two-material back — aluminum above, glass below.
Why Cases Don't Fit
iPhone 16 Pro cases will NOT fit iPhone 17 Pro.
The camera cutout shape is completely different — square module vs full-width plateau.
Even if the body dimensions were identical (they're not — iPhone 17 Pro is slightly different), the camera opening is a fundamentally different shape.
Wireless Charging Note
Only the glass segment below the plateau supports wireless charging. Car mounts and battery packs must align with this area, not the aluminum section.
